Making Mandarin Orange Stirfry
This is a very easy stir fry to prepare. Start with a can of bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and mandarin oranges. Chop up fresh ginger. You only need two tablespoons. In a small pan, heat one-third of the oranges, honey, and water. Crush the oranges until they form a nice mixture. In a large pan, heat oil and mustard seeds until the seeds start to pop. Add the bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and chopped ginger. Stir fry for five minutes. Now add the orange sauce mixture and cook for another 4 – 5 minutes. While that cooks, boil a package of Ramen noodles. (You know, those twenty-five cent noodle packs. Throw away the flavor pack.) With thirty seconds to go, add the rest of the oranges to the stir fry. Put the noodles on a plate and top with the stir-fry ingredients. Resist embellishing this recipe with other ingredients or flavors. The fresh ginger and orange sauce is a beautiful combination that should be enjoyed all by itself.
Using Ramen Noodles
Why did I choose to use Ramen noodles instead of rice? I would like to give you a good reason, but the simple answer is that I am lazy. Making rice is too time-consuming. Yes, I have automatic rice cookers, rice steamers, and pressure cookers but in the end, I only need a pot of boiling water and two minutes to make Ramen noodles. Besides, at twenty-five cents, who can resist the incredible value? …Laughter is heard! 😉
